How do I get from Portugal to Spain?
d1 asked:
I am an Irish student on a study abroad programme in the Alentejo region of eastern portugal. A city called Portalegre. I would like to travel into Spain this weekend and perhaps go to Madrid, however any connections i find are from Lisbon which is 4 hours in the opposite direction from me. Does anyone know the cheapest way for me to get from Portalegre to Madrid?

If you can get to Badajoz…there are many bus and train options every day.
Here’s a link for the Spanish rail network in English.
I’ve had a look at the map and yes I can see it’s a bit complicated.
Another option might be to get to Seville and from there the AVE train (under 2 and a houlf hours) to Madrid.

It’s very easy man, just go over to Badajoz, not very far, in a taxi it should be around 25 euros or you could take a bus to Elvas and then to Badajoz it’s just 20 km.
In Badajoz you can take a train or bus to Madrid, there are many.
If you ask me the easiest way was to rent a car and drive yourself, the roads are very easy, from Portalegre to Badajoz it’s just a 35 minute drive and to Madrid is an easy free highway 4 hour drive.
